“Really, all I need is a kid who doesn’t mind a big box of rubber ducks dumped on her head while she’s laying on the floor. Really. That would be the perfect shot to advertise your Family Fun Fair,” I said on the phone to Jill Patoine, who occasionally dons the hat of publicist for the Springfield Area Parent and Child Center.
Silence.
As you can see from the above photo, Patoine warmed up to my photo suggestion. Enlisting the help of Savannah Sheenan, daughter of Tom and Penny Sheenan of Perkinsville, the 5-year-old warmed up as well to the suggestion that she become a landing zone to promote the event’s Rubber Ducky Race.
Thanks to Savannah’s good sport skills, I can now include an attention-grabbing image to go with the details of the event – Family Fun Fair, Saturday, September 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the SAPCC headquarters at 2 Main Street in North Springfield.
Held rain or shine, the fair offers free admission, face-painting, a silent auction, jewelry-making, games, a performance at 1 p.m. by Troy Wuderle of Wunderle’s Big Top Adventures and the aquatic adventure, the Rubber Ducky Race, after Wunderle’s show.
The grand prize of the race is $200 for picking the first duck to cross the finish line and the next five owners of ducks who cross the finish line in second through sixth place get $50. The next five ducks to cross the line win their owners $25 each.
You really rent the ducks, you don’t get to take them home, SAPCC needs them for next year’s race.
To “rent” a duck spend $5 or you can buy a six-pack of the yellow bobbers for $25.
Duck rental tickets can be bought now at Myrtle’s Closet at the SAPCC facility or at the event.
Food will be available for purchase at the fair, families are welcome to bring a blanket for a picnic.
For more information call 886-5242 or to check out the silent auction items on-line link to www.sapcc-vt.org.
