SGC awarded scholarships of $1000 each to deserving graduating Springfield High School Seniors, Evan Lockwood and Ben Bolaski.
Evan Lockwood will be studying Forestry at Paul Smith's College in NY.
Lockwood has participated in the Natural Resources and Horticulture program at the River Valley Technical Center. He is the son of Jamie and Michael Lockwood of Weathersfield.
Ben Bolaski will be pursuing Environmental Studies at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.
He is the son of Jean and Alexander (Joe) Bolaski, Jr. of Springfield.
Each year the Springfield Garden Club awards two scholarships to students going on to study forestry, horticulture, natural resources, environmental studies, or related fields.
The fundraising efforts of the club through their Festival of Trees supports these scholarships as well as the club's civic beautification projects throughout the local area.
Club members, identified in their yellow "Down & Dirty" Springfield Garden Club t-shirts, have been busily watering, weeding, and pruning the public area gardens and iron planters on Main Street.
Once again this year the planters proliferate with bountiful blooms and lush, multi-colored leaves for the community to enjoy.
