The Crowell Gallery at the Moore Free Library in Newfane, presents an exhibit of landscape paintings by Westminster West artist, Judy Hawkins.
Hawkins’ recent oil paintings are evocative, moody and spontaneous explorations using new color combinations and compositions. The exhibit opens with an Artist’s Reception on Saturday, July 5 from 1 to 3 p.m., and the exhibit runs Saturday, July 5 to Saturday, July 26.
Hawkins’ paintings are bold and colorful interpretations of the landscape dominated by dramatic clouds using a palette, such as shades of ultramarine blue, brown, yellow, green and turquoise, that often takes the viewer by surprise. Hawkins is inspired by a passion for the landscape and the way light, color, and forms come together to create a sense of place. She recalls and interprets this visual wealth using gestural brushwork and unexpected color.
The Crowell Gallery is located at 23 West Street, Newfane, Vermont. Hours are Tuesday to Friday, from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
