The awards and accolades for Springfield High School senior student athlete Grant White continue to roll in.
After leading the Cosmos football team to an undefeated season and Division III state Championship last month, then leading the South to a win in the recent Vermont Senior Bowl, White has now been nominated for the prestigious “Joe Montana High School Quarterback Of The Year Award”, given out to the nation’s top high school quarterback.

Despite a tough year for his Bellows Falls Union High School football team, it must have been a nice ending to the season for coach Bob Lockerby, who not only coached the South squad to a win in the eighth annual Vermont Senior Bowl, (see story and photos below), but he also got to coach his son David in football for the first time, who is a senior defensive back for nearby Vermont Academy in Saxtons River.

Black River's Soccer–Scoring Machine

In the wake of yet another state championship for the Black River High School girls' soccer team, their third consecutive state title, senior captain Courtney Rohrig ended her phenomenal high school soccer career with not only the aforementioned three titles, but was also named to four All–Marble Valley League teams as well as the 2008 Burlington Free Press All–State team after scoring a phenomenal school record of 135 goals.

White Leads South Comeback Win In Senior Bowl

On Saturday afternoon at Middlebury College's Youngman Stadium, Springfield High School quarterback Grant White threw two touchdown passes in helping the South team defeat the North in the eighth annual Vermont Senior Bowl, 24-13. The overall series is now tied at four wins each.

Cosmos Crush Montpelier In Div III Semi Finals

The Springfield High School football team took an unbeaten record into their home, semi–final match up against Montpelier, and the fans went home happy as the Cosmos rolled into the championship game with a convincing, 61–20 thrashing at Brown Field in Springfield.

In a repeat performance of last year, the Black River High School boys' soccer team captured its' second consecutive Division IV state championship with a 1–0 win, only this year it didn't take an overtime shoot out to determine their fate.

Presidents Fly By Falcons In First Round Tournament Win

On a warm and sunny afternoon at Dorsey Park, the number–one seeded Black River High School boys' soccer team began the defense of their Division IV state title with a convincing, 5–1 win over number–eight seed Richford in Ludlow. The win put Black River at an impressive 14–1 (at press time) on the season, as they prepared to face number–four seeded Proctor in the semi–finals, also held at Dorsey Park.
