Upper Valley Storm, Mite team still on a hot streak!

The Storm played several games over the past two weekends, continuing their undefeated season, thus far!

The Storm played on Saturday, November 22 against the Hanover Wild Mites, winning in an exciting and close game, 2-1. Aaron Damren and Colin Kiernan scored the two goals for the Storm, while there was exciting contributions made by the offense, Elizabeth Barre, Kyle Pelletier, Owen Stadheim, and Alex Weinman. The Storm also had stellar defense, allowing the offense to move up and shoot on goal, which was played by Elias Adams, Hunter Boutin, Ian Garland and Hunter Whyte. There were excellent saves by the Storm goalie, Josh Smith. Charlie Scribner had the best of both worlds for this game, playing excellent and contributing his missile- like speed on both offense and defense!

The Storm Mites then played NH East on Sunday, November 23, winning 3-1. Colin Kiernan got a hat trick in this game, making this his 3rd hat trick of the season! The game was a nail biter, causing fans for both teams to “ooh” and “ahhh” at several points during the first 2 periods, when the score was tied at 1-1. Two of the goals by Kiernan came in the 3rd period to break the 1-1 tie. The Storm had several scoring bids from Charlie Scribner, Kyle Pelletier and Alex Weinman. Owen Stadheim and Elizabeth Barre were fast on their feet, and planted in front of the goal, ready to score on the rebounds in front of the net. Again, the Storm defense, Ian Garland, Hunter Boutin, Elias Adams, and Hunter Whyte continued their strong defensive play in front of Storm goalie, Josh Smith, who had two breakaway stops on him, to preserve the 3-1 lead.

Next, the Storm Mites played on Saturday, November 29 against the PVA Mites. While the Storm fans were trying to keep warm, the Storm kept up their barrage on the PVA team, taking the lead 9-1. Elias Adams and Alex Weinman from the Storm helped to contribute to the win, by each scoring a hat trick, while Aaron Damren scored two goals, assisted by Kyle Pelletier and Elizabeth Barre. Hunter Whyte also scored in the third period to seal the deal for the Storm. The PVA Mites were shut down offensively, by the exceptional defensive play of Hunter Boutin, Ian Garland, Colin Kiernan, and Charlie “The Missile” Scribner. Storm goalie, Josh Smith kept himself warmed up and ready for any offensive play that came his way from the PVA team!

Stories

Twas two weeks before Christmas and all through the town
it rained and it froze and the trees all fell down.
The wires that were strung on utility poles
snapped like a twig and the houses all froze.

We got our selves nestled all snug in our bed
while visions of warmer days danced in our head,
and me in my thermals and Pa in his cap
stayed huddled together for a bone chilling nap.

The moon on the ice made a crystalline glow
and we thought to ourselves, just how long can this go?
When what to our wondering eyes did appear
but our son with some coffee and donuts and cheer.

We could see our white breath in the darkness above
and deep under the covers I searched for my love.
His feet, they were frozen and so was his head ---
made me think to myself that he just might be dead.

The days passed so slowly, we must be insane
as we waited and wondered and called out by name
"On Thursday, on Friday, on Saturday too!
on Sunday, on Monday, on Tuesday – oh foo!
on Wednesday, and Thursday and Friday (oh dread!)
the kerosene fumes must have gone to our head.

To add to the pleasure of winter's delight
two snowstorms came by - 18 inches of white.
The snowing and blowing made things bad to worse
and we prayed to the heavens our pipes wouldn't burst.

Pa's eyes now were sunken, his expression --- not merry,
his cheeks had a pallor, his nose like a cherry.
The odd little smile on his face wasn't fun
He often was mumbling "go get me, my gun".

Then a rap on the door, and the fireman said,
"Are you sick, are you sane, and is anyone dead?
There's a shelter, there's warmth, you can come if you're able,
we have showers and kindness and food on the table" ---
and we looked at each other and thought  ---  "what the heck?"
yeah ... eleven days later you FINALLY check!

On night number twelve we heard the faint roar
of a convoy of trucks and we ran to the door.
To the top of the poles, to the stretch of the cable ---
please bring us your power just as fast as you' re able!

They spoke not a word, but went straight to their work
and the power came on with a hum and a jerk.
They heard us exclaim, as they drove out of sight ---
      MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
WE HAVE HEAT! WE HAVE LIGHT!
