Local News

School budget is up, taxes are down

"Pass-throughs can be divided in to four categories," said assistant superintendent Allen Damren. "Food service, federal grants, dental initiatives, and adult education. Unless you have the revenue, you won't incur the expenses. If you don't have it you can't spend it."

Lempster to decide on zoning

"We began to notice as development was happening we had no way to direct people. We increasingly had our hands tied on what we could do to alleviate some pressures," Rodeschin said.

Sports

Hemingway at the Head of the Class

"We're going to revolve around her," said the Tigers' new coach Paul Gallup. "She's not coming off the floor. If she needs a break, we're going to take a timeout."

Tigers Hit the Mat

About one third of the wrestlers in the Tigers program have never rolled around on the mat before mid-November, so Almstrom uses this time to lay a foundation of fundamentals.

Nutcracker returns to COH

This holiday tradition fills the opera house with many area families. Some area families create childhood memories at Nutcracker parties in their homes before or after the ballet. One family gets dressed in their best and enjoys Nutcracker Suite tea with cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off, of course, and each child receives an ornament for the tree and after the party pictures are taken in front of their tree. Bring your cameras and have your picture taken at Claremont Opera House after the show with Clara, The Sugar Plum Fairy, The Cavalier, and the Snow Queen and create your own holiday tradition.

Our Opinion

Top Seven Wonders of Newport is a very ambitious project

And today those 15 students are deep into the project. Now they have to count on the help of Newport residents and former Newporters to take a few minutes to complete the survey form. Cherry is hoping for at least 500 participants to make the outcome as meaningful as possible.

A day to give thanks

While we should be thankful year around, Thanksgiving has a way of bringing out the very best in everyone.
