Two dogs perish in Unity house fire
By Katelyn Harding, Staff Writer
UNITY -- "I'm an old man, but a very strong old man. I'll take care of myself," Tom Castellano told Red Cross worker Robin Booth, as she offered him pizza while standing outside his Unity home that had just been destroyed by a fire which claimed two of his four dogs' lives Tuesday.
No one else was injured in the fire that Unity Fire Chief Bruce Baker estimated began around 11. Castellano was not home at the time. Chief Baker could not confirm the cause. By 2 p.m. the fire was completely extinguished, resulting in a "total home loss." Around that time, Lempster and Unity firefighters were executing an "overhaul" looking for minor hotspots and trying to save Castellano's belongings, Baker said.

Voters could decide treatment plant question in May
It appears Newport voters will once again be asked to approve a bond at the May Town Meeting to start dealing with the phosphorus problem at its wastewater treatment facility.
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has asked the town to agree to a set of deadlines it has established for taking corrective actions by signing an Administrative Order of Consent.
At its Monday night meeting, the board took no action on that request. However, Town Manager Dan O'Neill said Tuesday he expects the board will recommend passage of a bond article in May.
